Mechanical Characterization of Rotary Friction Welded Dissimilar Aluminium Alloys

Joining of the similar & dissimilar materials alloys using heat friction in currently being used, especially for non-ferrous which are considered as non-weldable alloys. Al 2024-T6 6061-T6 having length 70mm and 12mm diameter were welded by welding process. Similar samples obtained applying different combinations parameters like pressure 30bar, forging from 50 to 60 bar, rotational speed 2200 rpm. Vickers microhardness Tensile test was performed on samples. Test shows that ultimate tensile strength hardness joint greater than their respective base metals welds. Dissimilar weld have 6061-T6, less 2024-T6. From results, it clearly shown increased increased. Joints analysed investigate fractography all All fractured metal alloy show formation cup cone structure indicate ductile fracture joints.
